Beautifully Broken

The words, the words

They taunt me

They spit and mock and sting

They wriggle, worm, and writhe in me

Such pain they love to bring.

The arms, the hands

They grab me

They hold and pinch and tighten

They claim peace, protection, safety

Instead they love to frighten.

The eyes, the mouth

They pierce me

They smile and laugh and charm

They hate, degrade, and shame me too

The show masks the true harm.

The heart, the mind

They stun me

They scheme and hide and lie

They manipulate, gaslight and push me more

Until I want to die.

The abuser, the abuser

He got to me

He hurt me body, soul and mind

He took, I gave, I loved him too

So to myself I must be kind.

But the Lord, the Lord

He wants me

He gives and lifts and rescues

He moulds, crafts, and mends my heart

Know that He won’t forget you!

The Lord, the Lord

He loves me

He weeps and grieves with me too

He holds me, cares for me, bandages me up

And He also does this for you.

The cracks, the chips

They are jagged

They are messy and sharp and true

They are glued with gold and shine His light

To make beautifully broken you.
